A Way Too Early Fantasy Football Draft

John LorgeSenior Writer IJune 12, 2009

Is it fantasy football season already?

Well, no, but it's not going to stop me from registering my first team of the season.

As I do annually, I signed up for a Yahoo! Sports autopick league just to see how things shake out. I ranked some playersusing a combination of intelligence and biasand crossed my fingers.

It turned out that I had the 10th pick of the draft, aka "the turn".  I really like the turn in fantasy leagues this season; there is a nice bunch of players ranked 5-15 and plenty of opportunity to build a successful team.

Redskins 2009 was first on the clock and Clinton Portis (yeah, I know) was off the board.

Here's how my team shook down:

10. Steve Slaton
11. Chris Johnson
30. Tony Romo
31. Marques Colston
50. Braylon Edwards
51. Chad Ochocinco
70. John Carlson
71. Pittsburgh
90. Nick Folk
91. Reggie Bush
110. David Garrard
111. Devin Hester
130. Percy Harvin
131. New England
150. Mike Prater

*Notes:  The Yahoo! autopick system drafted kickers and defenses in the same round for every team, going against my pre-ranks.

For the most part, I am satisfied with my team. I am not ecstatic about the Romo pick but I can deal with it.

Ultimately I think this team can have great success behind Slaton and Johnson, both of whom I had in my top five. I am high on Bush, when he’s healthy he’s a beast. I have some receivers looking to have huge bounce-back seasons and Percy Harvin could be the rookie of the year.

Let me know what you think of my roster and keep coming back for more fantasy football all summer long!
