The Seattle Mariners have announced that they have extended Catcher Kenji Johjima's contract through the 2011 season.

Johjima has been solid in his 2+ seasons for the club.  In the Major Leagues he has hit .283 with 32 home runs and 142 RBI's.

Although so far this year he has struggled to find his stroke as he is batting a paltry .200.

Kenji has also been known to contribute with his glove as well as his bat, frequently being among the league leaders in throwing base runners out.

This deal may come as a surprise as former No. 3 overall pick Jeff Clement is also a catcher and has shown in AAA Tacoma that he is primed and ready to be called up to the show.

No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
