Michael Sam is aiming to become the first openly gay player in NFL history and spent the last few days at the combine working out and doing interviews.
With Sam trying to impress NFL teams and executives during workouts and drills at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, PGA golfer Steve Elkington decided to make an insensitive joke about the former SEC Defensive Player of the Year on Twitter.
You can see the tweet below.
Shortly before that, Elkington also tweeted out his opinion of ESPN covering Sam and then tried to give some context a few hours later.
ESPN covering Michael Sam as a gay athlete is embarrassing .....— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) February 25, 2014
@shanebacon I'm for Sam I'm against ESPN telling me he's gay....— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) February 25, 2014
Something tells me Elkington might end up regretting these tweets.
