Ever wondered where EA Sports sourced their images for the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team's Legendary items? With perhaps thousands of Pele images to choose from, the developer settled upon a photo of Brazil's godlike striker in a steamy bath.
As expected, the image is starting to gain momentum on Twitter, as posted by an official GAME store:
The image can also be seen in a section called "Pele off the pitch" on FIFA.com. It was taken shortly after the striker helped his side to triumph in the 1970 Mexico World Cup, as highlighted by Getty's official description.
No wonder Pele is looking rather pleased with himself. Not only did Brazil capture the Jules Rimet trophy, he notched a healthy four goals on the way to glory, including the opener in the Samba Boys' 4-1 final victory over Italy.
Kotaku reached out to EA Canada for comment, where the history of the image was confirmed:
We are aware of the source image and we licensed the image from Getty. And yes, it's not the usual type of image you would think we would use, but it created a great image for the Pele Ultimate Team Legend item.
With such a glorious revelation made public, one has to consider where EA sourced the other Legendary player images from. Perhaps Ruud Gullit was enjoying a quick stint on the toilet, Gary Lineker was tucking into a Sunday roast or Luis Figo was in bed next to his famous pig's head.
Whatever the reality, we need more stories from behind each photo. Be sure to imagine exactly what each Legend is doing with the full list right here.
