It took a flurry of late free throws to seal the deal, but No. 5 Duke held on to defeat top-ranked Syracuse in Durham, 66-60. Orange coach Jim Boeheim was ejected for arguing a charging call on star C.J. Fair, and the ensuing technical fouls finished what Jabari Parker and the Blue Devils had started.
Parker, the superstar freshman who leads Duke in scoring and rebounding, had game highs of 19 points and 10 boards tonight. He also hit three of Duke's seven three-pointers. Combo guard Rasheed Sulaimon chipped in with eight points, seven assists and four rebounds, while Rodney Hood added 13 points.
Syracuse's own star forward, senior C.J. Fair, managed 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jerami Grant led 'Cuse with 17 points. Freshman PG Tyler Ennis, whose late-game heroics have saved the Orange so many times, played a strong second half—finishing with nine points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals—but couldn't find the range on his shot, connecting on just two of his 13 attempts from the field.
