It was a noble thought, Arsenal fans.
Maligned record-signing Mesut Ozil endured a torrid week and a lot of criticism for his penalty miss and subsequent so-so display in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
In a show of effort to pick up their rattled playmaker's confidence, Twitter users started using the #ChantForOzil hashtag in hopes that he'd be warmly received during Arsenal's Premier League match against Sunderland at the Emirates.

Problem was, when the team sheets were released, Ozil wasn't even in the squad.

Oops. Unsurprisingly, Arsenal's rivals were quick to jump on the failed hashtag.
