Martin Truex Jr. is prepared for a huge race with a new team, starting in the front for Furniture Row Chevrolet. He may very well be supported nearby by one of the bigger names off the track, his girlfriend Sherry Pollex.
Newsday's Seth Livingstone reports on a new start for Truex, who had something of a tumultuous year in 2013. With a new team comes vitality, though.
Truex states, "If you ever had to pick a time, with all the rule changes, I think this is a good year to be with a different team. You kind of start on an even playing field with everyone."
New faces are nice, but it's great to have some form of familiarity, and he certainly has that in the form of longtime girlfriend Pollex.
Here are the two speaking with WBTV last year about their fourth annual "Catwalk for a Cause."
Johnson City Press' Jeff Birchfield has more on the charitable tandem, including how they first met:
Her father, Greg, was the owner of PPC Racing, which won the 2000 Nationwide Series championship by a record 616-point margin with driver Jeff Green.
After graduating from Florida State University, it was only natural that Pollex would work in the sport. She got a job with a sports marketing firm, and that was where she met Truex.
Not that it's all racing all the time for Pollex, because, as Player Wives notes, she operates Lavendar Boutique.
Cortney Dryden paints quite the picture of the website she helped design for the online boutique run by Pollex: "Located in Mooresville, NC, the Hollywood Glamour inspired store will make you feel like you’ve been transported to the streets of New York!"
Pollex also helped start the Martin Truex Foundation, an organization that aims to help children in need with the help of donations.
When she isn't running a fashion store or supporting her boyfriend, she is tweeting. Her Twitter profile boasts over 36,000 followers, most of which wait for the rare polarizing post.
While deleted, Player Wives managed to spot one of the more intriguing tweets. They write, "Take for example when she went after Joey Logano who she thought spun her boyfriend out at the 2012 NASCAR race in Sonoma, CA. 'Sad for MT,' Pollex wrote. 'He got a flat on the last lap because Joey Lagano is an idiot.'"
We are guessing her Twitter feed will feature the occasional jubilant and supportive post this weekend, leaving the harsh criticism for another time. That is unless things get scrappy.
Truex will start from the front with a new team and car, but he will have the knowledge that a good woman is nearby, and one who always has his back.
