I’VE DONE IT. I have finally figured out the solution to all the Mets problems. Pitch Figueroa everyday and play Santana at first base, then bring him in for relief at which time Raul Casanova will come in at first.
Just kidding, but as much as used to love watching Delgado make entries into his home-run journal, I now see that book about as often as the Professor Klump guide to weight loss.
I have heard on the radio that Moises Alou is a potential first baseman, which would, if Moises Alou can stay healthy plug a huge hole at first base.
Another bad game for the second coming of Armando Benitez retiring just one batter but giving up two runs including one homer and Jorge Sosa who got THREE WHOLE OUTS but still gave up a run.
Call me an optimist but I am still not worried, If Joe Smith can come around like he has been doing and Sanchez can return to early 2006 form, Feliciano can continue his roll as lefty specialist and Wagner can close it up, the pen should be all right.
The Mets start a series with the Braves tomorrow in which the Bullpen will be continue to be tested by the tough Braves line-up, let’s see if they can hold up.Click here to see the complete box score of today's game

Wow, you say you are not worried. I am impressed.
You think Smith and Sanchez are enough? What do you think of Figueroa moving to the 'pen when Pedro comes back?

Well I think Smith can be an excellent asset to the bullpen if he is used properly, such as not being overworked like last year. He does his job, and comes through in the clutch. I like his youth.
And Sanchez looks great to me. His speed isn't at its best yet only clocking at around 92-93, but his movement on his two seam is ridiculous. If he can mix that up with his secondary pitches, and change speeds effectively he might look even better than 2006.
I might be a little too optimistic, but due to the recent events with Delgado, Heilman, and Sosa, I'm trying to at least project something positive.

With Smith, it depends if his slider flattens out or not. It also depends on whether or not hitters learn to be a little more patient with him, as many of his pitches don't end up as strikes if they are not taken.
Sanchez looks awesome. I just worry about his endurance over the course of the season since he hasn't pitched a whole season since 2005 (and I haven't confirmed that!).
What else are you optimistic about?

The lineup, hopefully Pedro, and the rest of the starting rotation. It's early and everyone seems to be playing a little under par. Pedro did not look good his first start, but I hope his prescence will kickstart the team when he returns. The lineup has been cooled, and it's only a matter of time when Wright and Reyes find their stride and become consistant hitters. Maine and Perez have had their ups and downs, but hats off to Figueroa and Pelfrey (for now). Once Maine finds that live, running fastball we might see more games like the one he pitched on that afternoon in late September. Perez has to throw strikes and he's dominant. But as Met fans, we'll have to wait and see.
