In an outcome many fans anticipated, The Wyatt Family was able to steal the victory on Sunday night in the 2014 WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view via a clean pinfall from Bray Wyatt on Roman Reigns to give the trio incredible momentum heading into the final stretch toward WrestleMania XXX.
The Wyatt Family has looked incredibly strong in the months leading into Elimination Chamber, and it became abundantly clear from the trio’s victory on Sunday that there are even bigger things in store for them.
The rumors have continued to circulate that the plan is to have Bray Wyatt square off against John Cena at the company’s biggest PPV of the year, via PWInsider Elite (h/t Wrestling Inc.). A victory over The Shield is another big step toward that feud.
Now The Wyatt Family must cost Cena the chance to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship later in the night in the Elimination Chamber match that will inevitably main event the PPV.
That would set up one of the main events for WrestleMania XXX.
As for The Shield, taking a loss is not the end of the world. The trio looked incredible during this match and has not backed down to anyone. Each member performed great on Sunday, and the loss doesn't hurt them at all.
With Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins all looking incredibly strong in this bout and over the last year since their debut, losing at Elimination Chamber furthered the eventual breakup of the group.
This was the perfect booking for this matchup.
Match Grade: A
In what will go down as the best match of the PPV, The Shield and The Wyatt Family stole the show at Elimination Chamber with one of the most exciting six-man tag team matches in recent history.
Led by yet another elite performance by Reigns—once again used his imposing size and athletic ability to dominate the show—The Shield proved that each of its members has the talent and long-term potential to become a top star in the company.
The same can be said for The Wyatt Family.
While The Shield has members that look like typical wrestlers the WWE would favor, the unique look and feel to The Wyatt Family has made them fan favorites and three of the most promising stars currently on the rise.
As great as this six-man battle was in the ring, the fact that wrestling fans were able to witness all of these rising stars in one match will be something we look back on in a decade and remember where we were.
This match was worth the price of the PPV on its own.
