Channing Crowder Strikes Back

Rex Ryan just can't seem to keep his big, huge mouth shut. So what, neither can Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder. The two have been going back and forth through the media for the last week.

All of this drama started almost as soon as Ryan became the head coach of the New York Jets. In his first press-conference, Ryan claimed that it would not be long before his team would be meeting with the President after they had won the Super Bowl.

Crowder replied by saying: "Oh, he's going crazy. He's going absolutely nuts. I know it's his first chance to be a head coach, and I know he's excited about life. But, like I said, I've never played a football game in June in my whole life. So congratulations to him. He's the OTA, the OTA Super Bowl winner."

The battle of words continued with Ryan replying: "I don’t know this Channing Crowder. All I know is that he’s all tatted up. He’s right about one thing. I’m a first-time head coach, but I’ve been around the game all my life. I'm no different than I’ver ever been, just that more people are listening.", and "If I was younger, I'd handle him myself."

Now, Crowder has wasted no time in saying: "Oh, Lord have mercy. What's wrong with him? Now he's talking about preparation? We play them twice this year. If he wants to be prepared, shouldn't he know the starting middle linebackers of his division rival?

He says he'd take care of me if he was younger? I'd have beat the hell out of that big old joker. Or if he really wants to get retro, my daddy or my uncle could have handled him. Don't get big. Win with preparation? Start watching some tape and learn who your rival is. Come on now."

This time Ryan who would not be outdone, said right away after minicamp today: "Let's see if he can top this one," Ryan said. "I've walked over tougher guys going to a fight." and "He can send himself and his father after me."

In Crowder's latest response, he is absolutely right. Not only is Rex Ryan's team holding OTA's, and having an off-season workout program, but so is EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL! Ryan also saw Crowder twice last season when they matched up in week 7, and in the Divisional Round of the play-offs. Ryan is now just getting out of hand. Instead of talking and arguing about who's team is better, Ryan and Crowder are talking about when and where they will meet for a street fight.

So how can Ryan play dumb, when he saw Crowder play his own team twice last year. I'm sorry Rex, but Crowder wins this war of words. Just stick to your eating contests, because out of the two challenges that you issued to Crowder, fighting, and football, Crowder would win both of those matchups, but the one that he would not win would be the eating contest that you obviously pride yourself on. Stick to your buffet line Rex, because you are just making a fool of yourself in your first big job. In fact, even Mark Schlereth and Marcellus Wiley of NFL Live are mocking you, saying "Crowder wins the war of words, but Ryan wins the buffet line."

Face it Rex, if you want to pick battles with your division rivals, you should at least be prepared like you say you are, and know who you are talking to. You should also respect the reining AFC East Champs, and save all of your trash-talk for the season, and not the off-season. Instead, you are just giving teams such as the Dolphins and the New England Patriots some bulletin board material that they will use against you to get ahead of you and your team. In the end Rex, you need to face the facts and just admit that you were wrong and that you lost your own battle. Instead, you are just making up excuses of why you cannot go down to Miami and "beat up" Channing Crowder. Good luck this season against the AFC East Rex, your team will certainly need it.
