Manchester City managed to tempt fate on Twitter when they praised Martin Demichelis just moments before he gave away a penalty and earned himself a red card during the first leg of their match against Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.
After 51 minutes they wrote: "Demichelis has been a rock at the heart of the City defence. The Argentine is thwarting everything Barca throw at him so far!"
Of course, a couple of minutes later, and he was off the field.
The tweet is reproduced below, but was swiftly deleted, according to 101 Great Goals:
Demichelis, by most accounts, actually had rather a good game on Tuesday night as he was drafted in for Manchester City's clash with the Spanish champions.
Rory Smith of The Times was not alone with this reading of the Argentine's game:
For 51 minutes, Demichelis genuinely was excellent.— Rory Smith (@RorySmithTimes) February 18, 2014
But that's unlikely to be what he's remembered for.
