This time around, Slovenia's Tina Maze did not have to share the top spot on the medal podium.
Maze defeated Anna Fenninger of Austria by seven-hundredths of a second to win the gold medal in the women's giant slalom.
Maze, who tied for the win in the downhill with Switzerland's Dominique Gisin, won the sixth overall medal for Slovenia at the Winter Games.
The Slovenian star also added to her impressive Sochi resume that includes four top-five finishes.
Fenninger, who won gold in the Super-G, earned the fifth Alpine medal for Austria, a total that leads all nations after seven medal events at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Center.
Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany, the defending champion from Vancouver, took home the bronze after she put in a second run of 1:17.90.
American Mikaela Shiffrin, who is the favorite to win the slalom, finished just off the podium in fifth place.
