As much as the numbers may not indicate it, another local team had a pick in the top ten of the 2009 MLB Draft. The Baltimore Orioles selected pitcher Matt Hobgood out of Norco High School in Southern California.

The right-hander will join a slew of other young pitchers in the farm system, with the hopes of of stabilizing a future rotation that will blend with the Orioles’ solid hitting and make for a A.L. East contender.

He’ll have to be brought along slowly, but Orioles fans will question how much time the team can take to upgrade its struggling starting staff.
