Russia 5, Slovenia 2 FINAL

The Russians struggled more than they expected to, but in the end the fans of the host team went away happy with a 5-2 win over Slovenia.

The Russians led 2-0 in the game's opening minutes, skating circles around the Slovenians. Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin scored the opening two goals.

But the Slovenians settled down and made a good showing in their country's first ever Olympic game. Ziga Jeglic scored twice for Slovenia and after two periods, Russia's lead was just 3-2.

A highlight-reel goal by Valeri Nichushkin put the game away for the Russians in the third period.

In the end, Russia's talent was too much for Slovenia's will.

Russia is 1-0 in the tournament so far and will face the United States in their next game. Slovenia is 0-1 but can be proud of their first Olympic performance.
