Team USA started its Olympic run the right way with a 7-1 drubbing of Slovakia on Thursday.
The Americans scored six of their goals in the second period, slipping the puck past Slovakian goalie Jaroslav Halak (on loan from the St. Louis Blues) a half dozen times in that stretch.
Scoring was nearly evenly distributed among the American men, with six players finding the back of the goal. Paul Stastny was the only man on ice to score twice. Phil Kessel chipped in a goal and two assists for the Red, White and Blue. Tomas Tatar of the Detroit Red Wings scored Slovakia's only goal.
