The NBA All-Star weekend is nearly upon us and as expected, a host of wild, new shoe designs will be making their first public debuts.

Of the many new kicks that will be on parade this Saturday, one of the most anticipated collections is Nike’s “Nola Gumbo League” collection.

Scheduled for release Friday, February 14, the Nola Gumbo collection is a black and turquoise menagerie that draws on the All-Star Game’s host city of New Orleans for its inspiration.

First let's take a look at the LeBron 11 “Gator King” (retail: $220).

This puppy is covered in cashmere/green and features a Hyperposite bucket with a gator scale upper. As you may have deduced, the shoe’s designers modeled LeBron James' newest kick after the alligator—a B.A. reptile and king of the Bayou.

The Gator King also features secret etching on the bucket only discernible when the shoe glows in the dark. It should be noted that the entire Nola Gumbo collection features glow-in-the-dark accents, in case you play a lot of laser tag.

Next up is the Kobe 9 "Elite Devotion" (retail: $225)—another high-top Kobe kick with splashes of brass over black and white cobbling.

The shoe features a glow-in-the-dark outsole and with Nola-inspired tiling on the upper. It is lean,  mean and certainly fresh.

Last is the KD VI "Illusion" (retail: $150), which keeps in the tradition of Kevin Durant’s low-cut look.

The new colorway is hectic—wave after wave of color celebrating “the magic of KD’s versatility.” The lines seem a bit busy, but the bottom of the glow-in-the-dark outsole features an awesome grid design.

KD teased the sneaks in January with a tweet about the upcoming All-Star Game.

Inglewood, Calif., retailer Millenium Shoes put together a video breaking down the Nola Gumbo collection at length. You can practically smell that sweet, new-shoe smell as they unpack each kick. It’s beautiful.

Be on the lookout for the new collection this weekend. All three men will be rocking their new shoes throughout the duration.

What do you think of the Nola Gumbos?

It’s hard to say, but I personally find the collection creative to the point of art. If I had an extra $225 on me I’d probably have to pick up those Kobe’s just to mount on my living-room wall.

That's not to say I wouldn't mind a pair of Adidas new Crazy Quick 2 "All-Star," which will on display for this weekend as well, according to

The acid-spray look is effective when handled properly, and Adidas managed to pull the look off flawlessly with this shoe.

I don't usually say this, but I'm looking forward to the All-Star weekend. It's going to be one big step forward for sneakers heads everywhere.
