The two obvious favorites for MVP, Kobe and Chris Paul, are both taking their great seasons to new levels on the biggest stage.
Paul, who started his first playoff game in spectacular fashion with 35 points, 10 assists, and four steals showed it was no fluke by putting on another, if not better, performance in his second game with 32 points, 17 assists, and three steals.
Kobe, in Game 1 against Denver, scored a quiet 32, while being overshadowed by Pau Gasol's brilliant game. Last night in Game 2, hearing backtalk from Kenyon Martin and J.R. Smith, Bryant went off for 49 points and 10 assists.
It just seems like these two are going to try to upstage one another as long as they are in the playoffs.
This got me thinking, who would you rather have on your team?
Would the Hornets be as good as they are if Kobe was there instead of Paul? Would the Lakers be as good if Paul was at the point and Kobe was gone?
I think the Lakers would be the same if not better. Paul, as good as he is, might even make Radmanovic or Walton into All-Stars. Imagine Paul leading the break with Gasol and Odom on his side.
I would not know what would become of the Hornets. Would Kobe trust his teammates as Paul does, or would he revert back to his ball-hogging days? Would David West be as good as he is with Kobe at his side?
Kobe is in a perfect situation, with the perfect team for him right now. I think Paul can be in the perfect situation on any team.
