For all of the talk about how this team has been great with RISP and has been going from first to third and scoring from second better than ever, nothing can erase the fact that team's with NO power cannot sustain success.
At this point the team is on pace to hit between 63 and 72 home runs this season, or roughly the amount of home runs we would expect from a healthy Eric Chavez and Frank Thomas and they are STILL leading the AL West. I firmly believe that IF Chavez can get back by Late June and we sign Frank Thomas (WHICH WE JUST DID...AS I WRITE THIS!!!)
When John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar went down before the season started we all started to see the light begin to shine through a crack in the AL West Cellar door. Now that the young pitching staff has posted the lowest ERA through 1/7.5th of the season there is no reason to believe that with a little pop in the middle of the order and an upgrade at the "Hot Corner" that this team can't compete to be over .500 and maybe even contend for the AL West Title.
