This week's matchup between the Boston College Eagles and the North Carolina State Wolfpack promises to be an interesting one—first and foremost because Tom O’Brien will be on the field.
The visitors’ side of the field.
Coach O’Brien will lead the Wolfpack against his former squad. I expect the first quarter to be emotional for both O’Brien and the BC players—and most importantly for BC quarterback Matt Ryan.
O’Brien knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Eagles' star signal caller. As such, I expect the Wolfpack to come into the game with a "we have your master from last year" mentality.
The Wolfpack probably won't have much trouble defending the pass early. In response, the Eagles should rely on running backs Andre Callender and A.J. Brooks.
The Wolfpack run defense was exposed last week when Central Florida RB Kevin Smith rushed for a career-high 217 yards and two touchdowns. Smith's first play from scrimmage produced an 80-yard score.
Hopefully Callender and Brooks can exploit the same weaknesses.
Ryan should have a great game once he settles down—but I don't expect career highs.
The Eagles proved last week that they can really pressure the quarterback. I wish the Pack's quarterback the best of luck, as his offensive line is woefully inexperienced.
Outcome: 35-7 Eagles. Expect balanced playing-calling from the Eagles offense.
