Roberto Martinez is content to wait until the summer to extend Ross Barkley's contact, according to Sky Sports.

When asked for an update on the youngster's contractual situation, Martinez is quoted as saying:

No, everything is still the same behind the scenes. As we mentioned it's always the case.

We'll always reward the players that deserve it and obviously Ross is one of those.

Despite an increasingly peripheral role at Everton, The Liverpool Echo's Greg O'Keeffe expects Tony Hibbert to earn a new deal at the club.

O'Keeffe includes quotes from Roberto Martinez:

The role he has is not like other players who can only help the team by playing at the weekend.

Tony’s role is bigger than that. He comes in every morning and the standard he sets is important. He helps us develop and he will always have a role at Everton for me.

The veteran right-back has played just three minutes of Premier League football this season, yet Martinez clearly values his influence around the club.

According to talkSPORT, Everton are interested in Levante's Keylor Navas.

The 27-year-old is an international team-mate of Bryan Oviedo and has just a year left to run on his contract.

If the Toffees' interest is genuine, Martinez can pay £8.2 million to meet his release clause.

    Wednesday, Feb. 12

Romelu Lukaku has announced he wants Champions League football, as reported by Ed Aarons in The Independent.

It is high time that I play in the Champions League. It is the next step I need in my development. Full stop.

I still have two years on my contract and I know Chelsea follow my development. In the end it depends on what the manager thinks about me.

With defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham denting Everton's own aspirations, it seems Lukaku must play elsewhere next season to meet these ambitions.

Roberto Martinez has responded to rumours linking Gareth Barry to Arsenal in the summer, with quotes taken from Everton's official website:

I'm glad there is talk because it means Gareth has been performing really well and there will be other options for him there. I still think the best for Everton and Gareth is to come.

He was available in the summer for other clubs and he decided to come to Everton. We were very clear with what we wanted from Gareth, to put him in an environment where he could be important, we could use his experience and he could enjoy his football.

At the end of the season, we will sit down and see if we've reached every single target we had and I'm sure Gareth is only focused on the games ahead and winning as many as we can for Everton.

The reluctance to advance any contract negotiations will undoubtedly concern Evertonians.

The Manchester City midfielder is out of contract in June and has made a huge impression during his loan spell at Everton.

Richardson claims Barry refused to make his loan deal permanent in January, preferring to keep his options open for the summer.

Having missed out on one Everton full-back, Manchester United will seemingly turn their attention to another, according to the Daily Star's Paul Hetherington.

David Moyes will attempt to bolster his new squad in the summer by bringing in Seamus Coleman, who Hetherington rates at around the £20 million mark.

Given his rapid improvement this season, Roberto Martinez will be determined to keep hold of the Irishman at all costs.
