Patrick will be taking on a rejuvenated Ricardo Almeida who is on the comeback trail. Ricardo was on a 6 fight win streak because he decided to take a long break for active competition in order to open a Jiu-Jitsu school. He apparently regained the fever for competition after being one of Renzo Gracie's assistant coaches for the last season of the IFL. His submission victory over then undefeated Rob Yundt should serve notice to Patrick that Almeida is serious about being recognized once again as one of the top contenders in the middleweight division.
Unlike Almeida, The Predator has been very active since 2005, with 3 professional fights a year. Patrick is also riding a 4 fight win streak, with his last loss against Travis Lutter, who is a BJJ black belt. in The Ultimate Fighter Finale. The Franchise (www.thefranchiseradio.net) has already placed Patrick Côté in their MMA Middleweight Top Ten list, and if Patrick can demonstrate his ability either on the ground, or to defend against an elite ground game, then he will be on everyone else's Top Ten list by the end of this match.

I think that his level of active competition coupled with his success really speaks in the minds of those doing the ranking. It also says a lot about the fighter that isn't just looking for a fight or two a year.

Cote is much better on the feet, if he can avoid takedowns he will mangle him, but if Almeida takes him down then Cote is done. Should be an amazing fight.

When we interviewed Patrick, he did not like us questioning his ground game. He used Jason MacDonald as a BJJ black belt that he beat, but yeah, I agree, he needs to keep this standing, or he can silence his critics by winning on the ground.
