Try as they might Manchester City could simply not find a breakthrough against Norwich City on Saturday, and as a result they find themselves leapfrogged by Chelsea, who are now top of the Premier League.
Pablo Zabaleta, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo all missed quality chances at Carrow Road, and Stevan Jovetic might well have scored the all-important goal in the opening period had Alvaro Negredo not been called for offside.
Following are ratings and analysis for all the City players.
Hart: Didn’t have a save to make in the first half but looked confident on set pieces.
Zabaleta: Conceded an early corner but came close to scoring when he flashed his shot just wide of the far post.
Kompany: Having to cover for his incompetent side-kick.
Demichelis: Is he really the best option Manchester City have at the moment? A disaster waiting to happen.
Clichy: Offering some good attacking movement down the left.
Navas: Went missing against Chelsea and has yet to turn up.
Yaya: Uncharacteristically poor distribution in the first half.
Milner: Has so far completed 93% of his passes.
Silva: Good rate of passing and has also contributed three tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
Jovetic: His goal should have stood.
Negredo: Rattled one off the bar following a corner-kick.
Hart: He had two saves to make after the restart and generally looked confident between the sticks.
Zabaleta: Faced a difficult match-up opposite Pilkington and also came close to opening the scoring.
Kompany: Positionally sound, as ever, and had only to make single tackle.
Demichelis: Improved massively in the second half and distributed the ball extremely well.
Clichy: Sometimes struggled against Redmond but overall held his own.
Navas: It took until the final quarter-hour for him to make an impression.
Yaya: Not all that impactful, which is unusual for the Ivorian.
Milner: A solid display in the centre of the park should earn him some more starts.
Silva: Completed 93% of his passes.
Jovetic: Still struggling to put in a full, 90 minute effort.
Negredo: Was curiously withdrawn in favour of Kolarov with 13 minutes left to play.
Dzeko: Missed a sitter at the far post following a good Milner cross.
Kolarov: The added width still couldn’t unlock the Norwich defense.
