This season really hasn't been the best for Colorado when it comes to the Detroit Red Wings.
The Avs hope that changes here in the playoffs.
Statistically, this is a one-sided matchup that heavily favors the Wings, and the Avalanche have to try and put what happened in the regular season behind them for this matchup.
When you hear a team has struggled against one particular opponent, usually it isn't this lop-sided. Against the Red Wings this season, the Avs have scored a combined TWO goals against Detroit this season.
The even more shocking detail of that statistic, both goals came in the first meeting between the two teams back on December 27.
Every other meeting between these two teams has had the same thing happen: Detroit scores the only goals of the game.
The Red Wings, in the course of the 82 game season, had 9 shutouts. ONE-THIRD of those shutouts came against Colorado.
This is destined to be a series that is extremely ugly, or a complete turn around from the regular season.
Colorado hopes for the latter.
Both of these teams have had successful playoff numbers over the course of their respective franchises, and this series should IDEALLY be an example of that.

I am an Avalanche fan, but I'm also a reality fan. Colorado is going to need A LOT of help to get out of this round. Foote and Salie need to contain Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and Nicklas Lidstrom needs to have a few off nights. Oh not to mention the rest of the Detroit line up that is fantastic from the top line down to the bottom. Oh should I also mention Chris Osgood? Forsberg, Sakic, Wolski, Smyth, Hejduk, Stastny, Rob Blake, Ray Bourque, and Patty Roy need to be on their A game. Here is to hope...

One down and three to go for the good guys! I'm a huge Red Wings fan and even though we took game one, I feel lucky to have a lead in this series. Detroit was outplayed in the second and most of the third period.
I just wonder if we'll see Budaj or Theodore in net on Saturday?

If I had to guess, I would presume Theodore. He really isn't one to hand over the reins if he feels he really can step up.
