The United States has won more Olympic medals (summer and winter combined) than any other country in history. While there are certain disciplines where Americans are dominant, there are a few competitions where the balance of power is changing.

In Sochi, a number of U.S. athletes are favored to win gold in unconventional sports such as cross-country skiing and the bobsled.
