At the end of the season, we may look back and say that Gardner-Webb's loss to Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday night was the most heartbreaking defeat any team suffered all season.

The Runnin' Bulldogs had not one, not two, but three chances to win this game with one defensive stop. Each time, VMI found a way to extend the game.

The Keydets hit three buzzer-beaters—all by different players—to force four overtimes. VMI tied the game with buzzer-beaters to end the second half, the second overtime and the third overtime. Wow.

In the fourth overtime, VMI pulled away and escaped with a 108-104 victory.
