This Was Such a BIG Weekend in the Sporting World That...
...Brett Favre, the greatest retirement story ever, had surgery and it was in the third segment of ESPNEWS's never ending half an hour.
It was sandwiched between Avery Johnson talking about the adjustments the Orlando Magic need to make on Game Three and Tina Fay's sister, er, Sarah Palin, er, the Yankee/Ray highlights.
The greatest franchise in MLB history won with two late runs.
Did anyone else see the mistake when the ESPNEWS logo popped up in the middle of the Tiger Woods interview?
Anyone else hear Tiger use the word gnarley?
Insomniacs around the USA will always know which college basketball team just broke the rules.
Six Major Sports Were On Display...
,,,and so were horse racing and soccer.
The Greatest Tennis Player Ever?
Roger Federer won the French Open, completing the career Grand Slam and tying Pete Sampras with 14 Grabd Slam Titles. Federer has made 20 straight Grand Slam Semifinals, so it sucks to be on his side of the bracket.
The Greatest Golfer Ever?
Tiger Woods came from behind to win the Memorial, aka Jack Nicklaus's Tournament. Tiger also has 14 Major Titles and if he is close on Sunday it sucks to be ahead of him.
The Greatest NHL Franchise Ever?
The Red Wings moved one win away from their fifth Stanley Cup in the last twelve years. For years, the Montreal Canadians ruled the NHL but in the last few decades, the Red Wings have been the best team in the NHL.
Being one of the original six, they might have passed the Canadians at this point.
I am also worried about the Pittsburgh Penguins, but I already went into that when I went on and on about how it would suck to be compared to the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Braves.
The Second Greatest NBA Franchise Ever?
Oh, Kobe is saying No. 1. Well, you're vote counts here Black Mamba, but I still don't think you have passed the Boston Celtics.
The Lakers pulled out an overtime win against the Magic. The Magic team that took down the top two Eastern teams has had trouble putting the biscuit in the basket against the Lakers and it really sucks to be a Cavs fan right now.
A Day Without Steroids?
And no one got busted in baseball today but how much does Manny Ramirez still suck? Try slumpbusting with Ozzie Guillen next time and stay away from the estrogen.
On a more positive note, Randy Johnson notched his 300th win, becoming only the sixth left-hander to join that exclusive club.
There might be a long gap until the next pitcher to join the club but I think that Rpy Halladay can make it. He is an old-school pitcher that just keeps getting better.
Smoke on Funes?
Owner/driver/commercial star Tony Stewart won the NASCAR race today to hold onto his lead in the Nextel Cup Standings. Smoke won the race on fumes as he gambled and went the final 41 laps on what was left in his tank. Would of sucked if he ran out of gas.
A Jockey Triple Crown?
I'm kind of glad that Calvin Borel didn't win the Belmont Stakes also. That whole jockey triple crown made me think about tight fitting underpants.
And that really sucked, especially when so much greatness was on display this BIG weekend.
