Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is considered one of the best defensive players in the NFL, but even given all of his success, his dad, Kevin Sherman, still won't accept any financial support from his son.
According to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times (h/t TheRoot.com), Sherman's dad has been driving a garbage truck for 26 years, getting up at 3:45 a.m. to work—even during holidays so he can get paid overtime. According to Tony Manfred of Business Insider, Sherman's dad left Christmas early in 2012 so he could get back and be ready to work the next day.
In an interview with NFL Films, Sherman's dad said his only goal was for his son to get an education.
The 25-year-old cornerback is making over $600,000 (not including endorsements) this season, according to Spotrac.com, but his father still won't let him support him. Sherman's dad claims he's just a few more years away from retirement.
Sherman and the Seahawks will be playing in Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
