Volkswagen Gets its Wings

Car manufacturer Volkswagen is always on the cutting edge of the Super Bowl commercial trends, and the company delivers once again this year with a spot that features a father telling his daughter what happens when that brand of car hits 100,000 miles.

According to the ad, a German engineer gets his wings.

With the perfect mix of humor (the engineers are trying to accomplish their daily tasks while dealing with a pair of giant wings protruding from their backs) and sophistication (the father is weaving his daughter a whimsical tale while she plays on her phone), this ad is easily one of the most entertaining released thus far.

Any commercial based on family that can also make us laugh is an instant favorite.

Toyota Goes Old School

I’ll preface this by saying that I am unabashed Muppets fan. With that being said, the new Toyota commercial featuring actor Terry Crews and the house band for the Muppets Show, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem is amazing.

While this ad will satisfy the children made to sit through the Super Bowl, this will also play to the inner child in every man or woman who grew up enjoying Kermit and Miss Piggy and all the antics of the puppets characters that inhabited the show.

For the record, Animal stole the show once again.

This is another fun commercial that plays off a family concept, and it even allows older viewers to enjoy the ad while still laughing at the over-the-top antics of Crews. This was well executed.

Stephen Colbert is Simply Wonderful

For those that do not watch Stephen Colbert’s show on Comedy Central, he has become one of the most popular comics in the world and is incredibly witty. The relationship with Wonderful Pistachios was a perfect fit.

While the video above is just a teaser for the series of ads that will run featuring the TV host, the company’s has released a series of talking points that are very funny. The finished ad hasn’t been released yet, but this is a very promising start.

If the short clips (all found here on the company’s YouTube page) are any indication of what fans are in for during the Super Bowl, this will be one of the funniest commercials fans will see on Sunday.

Wonderful Pistachios has always been known for its clever ads featuring pop culture stars, but the company may have found its perfect spokesman in Colbert.
