In another solid start for Jarrod Washburn, it was Ichiro and Ken Griffey Jr. who graced us with heroics.

After Wash surrendered a two-out RBI double to Mike Redmond, Ichiro came through in the bottom of the fifth with a game tying, two-out RBI double of his own.

Aside from that, though, today’s game was just yet another case of the Mariners offense being dominated by a nothing special right handed starter. Blackburn pitched seven innings of one-run ball.

Lucky for us, though, the Minnesota offense was just as inept as Seattle’s today, and Washburn combined with four of our relievers was good enough to hold the Twins to one run.

Fortunately for the M’s, the Twins pen didn’t achieve the same success.

The M’s took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th on yet another two-out RBI double, this time by Ken Griffey Jr, after Ichiro had reached on an infield single to start off the inning.

David Aardsma came in to close out the game, and it was anything but easy. He was able to record the final out of the game on a Denard Span ground out, though, after allowing runners to reach first and third on a walk and a Jose Lopez error.

In other news,

Ichiro’s hit streak is currently at: one game.

Jarrod Washburn’s trade value should have increased a bit more with today’s win.

We go for a series win tomorrow with Erik Bedard on the hill.
