According to www.cfl.ca, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers released four players today, including quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie.

The move is shocking, considering that the Dinwiddie, along with fellow pivot Stefan Lefors were rumoured to be the top two contenders for the Bomber's starting quarterback position.

That quarterback battle sure didn't take long.

Dinwiddie, most notably known for making his first start in the CFL in the Grey Cup game against the Riders, never really had a chance to be a star in Winnipeg. Dinwiddie's threw for 1,581 yards as a Bomber with six touchdowns an nine interceptions.

As mentioned, Dinwiddie started for the Bombers in the 2007 Grey Cup game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Dinwiddie did throw one touchdown pass, but also threw three interceptions in a 23-18 loss.

One move that may have attributed to Dinwiddie's release may have been the signing of former NFL quarterback Darrell Hackney.

With Dinwiddie out of the picture, ex Eskimos quarterback Stefan Lefors looks to be the favourite to become Winnipeg's starting quarterback.

The Bomber's also said goodbye defensive back Derrick Strait, wide receiver Ivan Birungi and linebacker Bryan Wilson.
