This season's second Merseyside derby has a huge act to follow.

Everton hosted Liverpool in a thrilling 3-3 draw during November, but with both sides now confirmed as legitimate contenders for a Champions League spot, there's more than just local pride up for grabs at Anfield.

As ever, we thought it best to test the waters with a FIFA 14 simulation on Xbox One.

With EA Sports' Matchday update applied and fitness problems taken into account, current form has been added. Can Liverpool move four points clear of their rivals? Will the Toffees finally topple the side from across Stanley Park?

Let's take a look.

Liverpool vs. Everton: FIFA 14 Highlights

10'—Liverpool with the more composed start, but neither team really settling into passing rhythm. Huge jeers follow every Everton touch, until play breaks down in the middle and Jordan Henderson is afforded a shot at goal. His effort from a wide angle doesn't hit the target.

14'—Aiden McGeady hits the byline and flashes a low ball straight across Simon Mignolet's goal. Romelu Lukaku can't keep up and slides in too late. Goalkick for the Belgian stopper.

21'—Luis Suarez finally gets involved with a shot from the edge of the box. Philippe Coutinho's fine lobbed pass catches the Everton defence on their heels, but Tim Howard is equal to Suarez's effort.

28'—Liverpool continue pressuring, but this time, it's Daniel Sturridge moving in on goal. Coutinho curls in an excellent cross to give the Englishman a simple header, but Howard produces a stunning save from point blank range. Sturridge makes contact from the resulting corner, but Howard once again tips over the bar. Absolutely amazing play from the American!

HALF-TIME: Liverpool 0-0 Everton

56'—A really cagey start to the second half. Neither team wants to lose this, but Brendan Rodgers' men look to have become rigid in midfield. Everton inviting danger, but easily mopping it up.

70'—Composed play from the visitors results in James McCarthy slotting Leon Osman through on goal. He takes two touches and slots beyond Mignolet! It's 1-0 to Everton, and Anfield is silent!

84'—Steven Gerrard's game is summed up with a terrible shot from long range. A wild swipe from just outside the box sees Howard collect from the corner flag.

89'—Everton nearly make it 2-0 at the death! Once again, Roberto Martinez's team look comfortable as Liverpool run out of ideas in the attacking third. A quick burst forward sees Lukaku gain possession. He rolls a fantastic pass into Kevin Mirallas, who shoots at Mignolet. The rebound threatens to bounce in, but the keeper scuttles back to catch.

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 0-1 Everton (Osman)

That's one pretty fine result for the Blue half of Merseyside, if FIFA 14 can be believed. Do you expect Everton to emulate their virtual success with a momentous showing at Anfield?

Skybet currently has Osman to score the only goal at 130/1.
