Former Louisville star Chane Behanan told Bleacher Report on Monday that he has enrolled in online courses at Colorado State. Behanan, a senior who has one season of eligibility remaining, will make his Rams debut in December.

Behanan was dismissed from Louisville’s program last month after multiple violations of team rules. Behanan is currently in Houston undergoing treatment for personal issues in a program run by former NBA star John Lucas.

“I’m working on becoming a leader instead of a follower,” Behanan told Bleacher Report during a phone interview Monday. “I’m getting to know myself a little bit better.”

Behanan said he will remain in Houston throughout the spring while taking online courses through Colorado State. He’ll move to Colorado either late this summer or in the fall.

“My main goal is for him to earn his degree,” Lucas said. “He’s already made huge strides since he’s been here. He’s becoming a better man.”

The 6’6”, 250-pound Behanan was one of the key reasons Louisville won an NCAA title in 2013. He averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds and had 15 points and 12 boards against Michigan in the national championship game.

As a sophomore, Behanan averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for a Cardinals team that lost to eventual national champion Kentucky in the Final Four.

Behanan, who played in 12 games for Louisville this season before his dismissal, said Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy was one of the key reasons he decided to continue his career in Fort Collins.

Issues with alcohol cost Eustachy his job at Iowa State in May of 2003. But after receiving treatment, he resurrected his career a year later at Southern Miss and is now in his second season at Colorado State.

“I respect Coach Eustachy and what he’s been through,” Behanan said. “We have a good connection.”

Colorado State put out a press release confirming the addition of Behanan shortly after Bleacher Report broke the news of his decision.

"I am extremely excited to have Chane enrolled at Colorado State," Eustachy in a statement. "It is a great fit for both of us. He is a tremendous kid, and I really enjoyed getting to know him during his brief visit to Fort Collins."
