The third time was the charm for Li Na, who triumphed at the 2014 Australian Open after faltering in two prior appearances in the final, in 2011 and 2013.

For the first time, the fourth seed Li was the favorite in the final as she faced No. 20 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia on the blue hardcourt at Rod Laver Arena.

Both women made their share of errors in a back-and-forth first set. Li and Cibulkova won two breaks each, forcing a tiebreak where Li finally dialed in a serve that had betrayed her early in the match.

Once she had the first set in the bag, a sense of calm enveloped the favorite, who cruised easily to a 6-0 win in the second set.

The win is Li Na's first at the Australian Open, and the second Grand Slam of the 31-year-old's career, after the 2011 French Open.

Li Na (4) wins the 2014 Australian Open over Dominika Cibulkova (20), 7-6(3), 6-0.
