NFL noobs, consider this your vibrant crash course into the finer points of American football. For the rest of you, just enjoy all the fancy colors.
Deadspin's Barry Petchesky happened upon this video created by Fraser Davidson, reportedly featuring voices some of you might recognize from the Adventures in Design podcast—a show "about the culture in and around design and illustration."
Now some might scoff at the simplicity of the information provided in the video, but that makes sense because you are such a well-informed sports fan who knows all the intricate rules surrounding the NFL.
Don't worry, we will all act very impressed at our respective Super Bowl parties in a couple of weeks.
However, this is far more about, to second Petchesky, a gorgeous animation that provides as almost a secondary afterthought the basic tenants of a game most of us live and breath for a good portion of the year.
If information is what you are looking for, the video certainly breaks down the basics of the game and the rigid structure that brings us to the Super Bowl played this year on Feb. 2 between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
That's when the, "two most badass teams in the NFL face off for the Vince Lombardi trophy in the greatest sporting event in history: the Super Bowl!"
This entire video might be better served for the select few who are far more interested in what's on the grill or what the best commercial is on Super Bowl Sunday.
However, even the most ardent fans find themselves wondering what's up with the grill and asks everyone to shut up when the commercials are on, so let's all just enjoy this for what it really is: beautiful eye candy.
Now if Davidson could please craft a video that might explain what constitutes a legal hit in this sport nowadays, perhaps we will all win.
Until then, we will just sit back and admire all the pretty colors.
