Why Indiana can cover the spread
Revenge is always a good reason to count on a conference rival catching double digits. There is some pride to take into consideration here, as Indiana (12-6, 2-3) has won three of four against the Spartans.
Michigan State won the first meeting, 73-56, back on Jan. 4, and that was at Bloomington.
Why Michigan State can cover the spread
The Spartans (17-1, 6-0 Big Ten) have won 10 straight, eight by double digits. They're allowing a paltry average of 60.1 points while limiting foes to 36.4 percent shooting during the streak.
Senior Adreian Payne will miss his fourth straight game, but MSU has won by an average of 14 points in his absence. The Spartans have also been covering double-digit spreads lately (4-0 ATS past four times in this situation, according to the Odds Shark college basketball database).
Since a 2-5-1 ATS start this season, Michigan State has covered eight of its last nine games. The third-ranked Spartans are clearly above Payne and haven't missed him once.
Not to say he's not needed, but coach Tom Izzo's bunch is stacked and should once again dominate the unranked Hoosiers. They are 8-2 ATS at home to Indiana and should be 9-2 ATS after tonight.
- Indiana is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games at Michigan State.
- Spartans are 14-1 straight up past 15 home games vs. the Hoosiers.
- Michigan State is 8-1 ATS in its last nine games.
- Indiana is 3-11 ATS its past 14 times as double-digit underdogs.
