Royal Rumble Preview and Prediction

The Royal Rumble match is one of the most unique ideas in wrestling history, and it has become a fan favorite over the years. While seeing 30 of the top Superstars from past and present is always enjoyable, the countdown for the next participant is always the best part of the event.

Any participant could conceivably win this match and go on to main event WrestleMania as the challenger for the newly unified WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the stakes couldn’t be higher at this event.

The Royal Rumble is the official start of the road to WrestleMania.

While everyone has a shot at victory, there are three main favorites in this year’s event; Batista, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.

Batista returned on the Jan. 20 episode of Raw and made it clear that he expects to accomplish big things now that he is back. The WWE has built the veteran as a megastar during the hype for his re-debut, and allowing him to win the Rumble and main event WrestleMania would be great incentive on a possible deal.

The WWE would be trying to capture lightning in a bottle after Batista came back, and launching him into the main event scene at the company’s biggest PPV just one week after returning would make him look like the top star.

Batista may be the favorite for many wrestling fans, but Daniel Bryan is the most likely candidate after the way most of 2013 was booked. The WWE gave Bryan the title at SummerSlam and instantly took it off him via a dirty move by The Authority.

Sans his interaction with the Wyatt Family—a storyline meant to distract the fans from believing he will win the Rumble—the last year of programming has been built around Bryan’s relentless pursuit of the WWE Championship.

The talented wrestler’s return to the title scene should come via a Royal Rumble victory.

The dark horse of this year’s event is Punk, though. The former WWE champion has been teasing tension with The Authority as well, but this could all be a diversion for Punk’s return to the title scene.

Like Bryan, Punk has been one of the most versatile wrestlers in the business, and this could be the monumental moment he needs. Punk has not won a Royal Rumble, and this could be a way for the company to appease one of its top stars.

There are other stars like Roman Reigns, a returning Sheamus or even a surprise entrant that could steal the show, but the WWE has clearly built long-term storylines based around the three favorites and one of those men should win.

No matter which Superstar takes home the victory in this annual event, the fans will be treated to a match that typically runs for over an hour and features some of the most entertaining people in the industry.

We’re all winners.

Predicted 2014 Royal Rumble Winner: Daniel Bryan
