We’re 20 days into the January transfer window, and given that Borussia Dortmund star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has just 18 months left on his current contract, it’s no surprise to see the rumors flowing in thick and fast.
Currently out of the Dortmund team with a long-term back injury, according to BBC Sport, Gundogan has been an instrumental part of Jurgen Klopp’s team and has become known as one of the best young midfielders in European football.
The German midfielder, who signed for Dortmund from FC Nurnberg in the summer of 2011, is currently mulling over a decision on his future, according to Sky Sports, and given his contract situation, he could be in line for a move outside the Bundesliga.
Here we will have the latest news and rumors on Gundogan and his potential destination.

To start off, David Anderson of the Mirror wrote on January 9 that Borussia Dortmund were on the verge of offering Ilkay Gundogan a new deal to ward off strong interest from Premier League club Manchester United.
Since then, according to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have grown confident that Gundogan will be joining them this summer. The player’s father, however, has also reportedly held discussions with Real Madrid and Barcelona besides his current club, while both Arsenal and Chelsea have allegedly shown an interest in the midfield playmaker.
And it appears that the interest from both United and Real is firm, as Ed Aarons of the Independent reports that they could face a fight to sign the £25 million-rated Gundogan.
Finally, according to German newspaper Bild (via ITV.com), both United and Real have reportedly made offers expected to rise above £20 million.
