Gabriel Agbonlahor departed Aston Villa's Premier League game against Liverpool on Saturday evening in the 49th minute with a knock.
The club's official Twitter account confirmed the news:
The striker was replaced by Villa new-boy Grant Holt, signed this week from Wigan on loan.
The substitution was not exactly a like-for-like change, but Villa boss Paul Lambert will change to a more pragmatic style and ask targetman Holt to hold the ball up and ensure his side come away from Anfield without defeat.
Agbonlahor had been influential for Villa, setting up both of their first-half goals. First, Andreas Weimann converted his low cross, then Christian Benteke stooped to head home another cross from the right by the former England international.
Agbonlahor was Villa's counter-attacking outlet against Liverpool, and they failed to break with the same speed and invention after his departure.
There is no official word on his injury from the club, but they will hope it is not serious as they have a run of winnable games coming up against fellow strugglers West Brom, West Ham and Cardiff.
