Pro Wrestling, WWE, Game Recap

William Regal is the last person I expected to win the WWE King of the Ring tournament on Monday night.

Until two weeks ago, he was just the General Manager of Raw.

However, he stepped back into the ring on the WWE's tour of Europe and wrestled WWE champion Randy Orton on the April 17 Raw from London.

WWE officials must have liked what they saw, because Regal not only entered the King of the Ring tournament, he won the whole thing.

Regal used his "stroke" as General Manager to book himself in Round One against the lovable leprechaun, Hornswoggle. Regal beat him in about 15 seconds.

In the semifinals, Regal faced Hornswoggle's storyline father, Finlay. These two had some hard-hitting battles in WCW. Regal won when Finlay passed out while trapped in the Regal Stretch.

The win put Regal in the finals against C.M. Punk, and Regal won the match cleanly with the Regal Stretch.

This was a surprise because it looked like Punk was going to win it all. He beat Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy before losing to Regal.

We'll see if Regal relinquishes his GM title and competes in the ring full-time. He may be in for a late-career rejuvenation like Booker T got in 2006 when he became King of the Ring.

  1. I really hope that what we saw on RAW is a sign of things to come. Regal has been one of my favorites throughout the years, and to see him displayed in some sort of high-end rivalry or in the title picture would, to me, would what could help the WWE in their lack of having something new in the program. I think that he could hold the WWE title for a while, as the title picture presently of Cena/HHH/Orton has gotten a little stale. We've seen any combination of the main 3 guys for a couple of months now, and adding people like JBL and Regal could be the very thing WWE needs to spice up the title again.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised to see Regal pull out a victory. He is one performer who can really pull off the "King" gimmick perfectly.

But I also see him somehow losing his feud against Kennedy, which would make HIM the new "King"...right?

Personally, KING KENNEDY would do wonders for his career. He needs that push to main event status, and I think winning the "King of The Ring" title from Regal could do that.

I've said it over and over, Kennedy has a bright future with Championship gold very close.

By the way, Regal and Kennedy will pull off a great feud. Both can work with the mic very well.

  3. good read... thnx 4 the edit
