Defender Demands Offside Call, Inadvertently Sets Up Goal in Coppa Italia

Wednesday's Coppa Italia match between Napoli and Atalanta featured one of the stranger goals you'll see this year.

Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain was well offside on a chipped pass, and Atalanta defender Mario Yepes made sure to point it out to the referee by turning away and raising his arm. Unfortunately for Yepes, the ball hit him in the back before it could reach the offside forward, and bounced directly into the path of his strike partner Lorenzo Insigne.

Insigne did the rest.

You could call it bad luck, or you could say it's karmic revenge for every time a defender whines to the linesman for offside instead of continuing to defend. Whatever you decide, it's still a very unusual goal.

Hat tip to 101 Great Goals.
