It’s the classic tale of a pitcher wanting an exorbitant amount of money and the team he is on not feeling the same.
We've seen it before.
This time the characters will be played by Jeff Samardzija and the Chicago Cubs, respectively. Join in with MLB analyst Gabe Zaldivar as he breaks down the trade potential of one of the more electric pitchers in the National League.
Of course, there is a lot to love about the pitcher. He managed to dominate batters to the tune of 214 strikeouts last season, something you fantasy owners were pleased about. Still, there are some things that might cause teams to stray from Samardzija.
At 28, you have the feeling he’s on the brink of greatness, something he flirted with in 2011 when he pitched just 88 innings.
As a starter, things haven’t always been so smooth. Just this last year, while he was busy striking out batters, he also saw his ERA balloon to 4.34 and his ERA+ dwindle to 91. It’s hardly all his fault, but it will be hard for the Cubs to just deal him straight off nevertheless.
