I knew I spoke too soon.
Earlier today I brought you the breaking news from The Orlando Sentinel that claimed Jameer Nelson would not come back from his nearly four month hiatus during game one of the NBA Finals.
Magic general manager Otis Smith insisted that there was only a "smidgen" of a chance that Nelson would play.
However, a few hours ago, during Stan Van Gundy's press conference, he confirmed that Jameer will be active for tonight's first Finals game against the Lakers.
Coach Van Gundy told reporters that he has been watching him very closely the past few days, and the decision wasn't made quickly.
Nelson is reported to be two months ahead of schedule in the rehabbing of his torn labrum.
Whether it's Nelson or Alston playing tonight, there should be no problem. As you may now by now, the Magic bench is deep, and if for some reason Nelson cannot play, or cannot play very long, "Skip To My Lou" will fill Jameer's shoes as he's done the past couple months.
Here's to the dramatic swaying of media stories hours before the game and an exciting game one at Staples Center.
