The ladies short program of the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships is in the book, and teenager Gracie Gold stole the show.

Gold posted a personal-best 72.12 to seize control of the event. Rounding out the top three were Polina Edmunds (66.75), who is the youngest skater in the field, and Mirai Nagasu (65.44). Favorite Ashley Wagner sits in fourth (64.71) but is in solid striking distance for the ladies free skate portion of the event on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Whoever lands on the podium will have the inside track at landing the coveted three spots on the U.S. ladies' figure skating team.

Earlier in the evening, Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir set the pace in the pairs competition with a 73.13. Felicia Zhang and Nathan Bartholomay posted a 66.5, and DeeDee Leng and Timothy LeDuc rounded out the top three with a 66.4.

The ice dancing and men's competitions get underway Friday (Jan. 10), with a number of Olympic spots up for grabs.
