NFL, Shaun Alexander, 2008 NFL Draft, Jake Long, Breaking News

Jake Long Signed by the Miami Dolphins

That's right, the first pick in the draft has been officially made, and now the Rams are on the clock.

"It's such an honor to be the number one pick and to be a part of this organization,"  said Long during the announcement.

The deal is reportedly worth $57.5 million over 5 years, and Long is fully prepared to get ready for the season.

"I can get into camp and learn the system here," said Long.

With this pick completed, the rest of the draft is set to take place, hopefully it can be exciting and leave everybody on their toes.

Shaun Alexander released by the Seattle Seahawks

Shaun Alexander was released today by the Seahawks.  They had two choices, either terminate the contract immediately and pay now or wait until June 2nd and pay in 2009.

Obviously, they are going to take the $4.475 million in cap penalties now.

Alexander is the career rushing leader for the Seahawks and is only 26 months removed from an MVP season, Alexander was also the first player to have at least 15 touchdowns in five consecutive seasons.

He has had a storied career, but questions about his health will make it tough for a team to sign him into a starting position. Although many teams do desire a 2 back set, Alexander has a foot injury which plagued him all of last year.

  3. Sorry guys, but Joe is right. Here's a quote from ESPN:

"Tuesday morning doctors declared the 19th overall draft choice in 2000 fully healthy to participate in minicamps this spring.

Hours later, he was unemployed and released from the eight-year contract he signed weeks after the 2006 Super Bowl..."

    Here's a Shaun Alexander quote:

"I will be playing for another NFL team this fall, and doing everything I can to contribute..."I am healthy, energized and looking forward to beginning the next chapter of my NFL career...My family will remain in the Seattle area, and when my days in the NFL do eventually come to an end, I plan to retire here. Our hearts are woven into the fabric of this community, we are blessed to be part of it, and we enjoy contributing to it in every way we can. Thank you, Seattle."
