Josh Beckett, the set starter for Tuesday, was scratched due to a stiff neck.

In replacement, the Sox summoned David Pauley from AAA Pawtucket to start. Pauley has made 3 starts for Pawtucket this year and has an impressive 1.17 ERA. The Boston Red Sox also designated outfielder Joe Thurston to make room for Pauley on the 25 man roster.

Pauley will start tonight vs. the Angels.
