WWE are teasing a major development this Wednesday, as a whole host of legends will be in attendance for a "groundbreaking announcement".

What it will involve is up in the air and open to speculation at this point, but WWE released the following statement on their website earlier today:

WWE Universe, come to this Wednesday (Jan. 8) at 9:30 p.m. ET for a groundbreaking announcement.

Join WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon — along with WWE COO Triple H, 11-time WWE Champion John Cena, and WWE Hall of Famers "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels — for the announcement, which will be streamed LIVE from Las Vegas.

The fact that current roster stars, such as Triple H and John Cena, are flanked alongside inactive stars, such as Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin, suggest this will indeed be a pretty big deal for the WWE.

The announcement to include Austin in the event makes for particularly interesting reading, given his prolonged absence from TV tapings for a considerable period.

Could it be relating to the WWE network, perhaps?

It is something that has been in the offing for a period of time now, and getting some big names such as Austin and Michaels involved will only help to promote such a launch.

Of course, the more hopeful WWE fans will be praying it is something relating to developments in the ring. People will be instantly dreaming of a return for Austin just in time for WrestleMania season. But again, that looks unlikely given the style of the announcement and Austin's current situation.

One thing is for sure, something the company are labeling as "the biggest revolution in sports-entertainment history" suggest we should well be watching with intrigue on Wednesday.

If it is the launching of the WWE network, the company are certainly doing it in style with the star names they have pulled in.
