Since the transfer window opened, Newcastle United have been linked with an abundance of names, and a number of coming and goings are likely at St. James’ Park over the next few weeks.

A striker and an attacking midfielder are said to be high on the club’s shopping list with manager Alan Pardew, chief scout Graham Carr and director of football Joe Kinnear hoping to make a breakthrough soon.

Our last tracker saw the likes of Joleon Lescott, Jonny Heitinga and Remy Cabella linked with moves to the north-east, and the gossip continues to grow.

So as a new week gets underway, we look at the latest round of rumours surrounding the Magpies.

Alan Pardew’s eagerness to sign players with Premier League experience could see him bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long, according to Ian Murtagh in the Daily Star.

The story suggests the Republic of Ireland international’s name tops the Toon manager’s wish list alongside Luuk De Jong, and he has asked to be kept informed of any developments regarding the 26-year-old.

With Hull City having a bid accepted for Long on Wednesday, as reported by Alan Nixon from Mirror Football, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies swoop in and try and hijack the deal.

Thomas Ince

Highly-rated Blackpool youngster Thomas Ince has his pick of three Premier League clubs this January—and Newcastle United are one of them according to Adrian Kajumba in the Daily Star.

The England Under-21 star, who will be a free agent in the summer, is also subject to offers from Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur, while Italian side Udinese are also keen.

The trio of top flight clubs in England are all willing to pay £4 million to land Ince during this window, while Udinese are thought to favour paying much less for him once the season is over.

Remy Cabella

French outfit Montpellier have admitted a bid for star midfielder Remy Cabella is imminent, and that Newcastle United are ready to pounce.

According to club president Laurent Nicollin, in a report by Midi Libre via Sky Sports’ Graeme Bailey, the 23-year-old has also attracted the attention of Manchester United.

Valued at £14 million by the Ligue 1 side, Nicollin would ideally like to keep the France Under-21 international at the Stade de la Mosson until the end of the season.

“Manchester has not sent any proposal,” he said. “As for Newcastle, it seems to me they are about to make one, but I expect confirmation on that.”

Meanwhile the player has welcomed the prospect of moving to England, and told French radio station RMC, via Sky Sports: “Newcastle? Well, we realise that at some point we must leave. I think I'm capable of it.

“England interests me, there are good clubs out there. If Montpellier reaches an agreement with an English club that suits me, I'll be happy.”

Loic Remy

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has suggested if Newcastle United don’t make a permanent move for Loic Remy soon, then someone else will.

As reported by Ben Jefferson in the Daily Express, Arsenal are said to be monitoring the Frenchman’s situation, who has scored 10 Premier League goals since arriving at St. James’ Park on loan in August.

Redknapp said: “I don't know what the deal is. You'd think they'd want to snap him up, wouldn't you? If they don't then someone else will.

“If someone came and offered £15 million or £16 million for him I'd sell him if it was my choice but it's not, it's down to the chairman.”

Bafetimbi Gomis

Any attempt by Newcastle United to bring striker Bafetimbi Gomis to Tyneside is once again being hampered by agent’s fees, according to Lee Ryder in the Evening Chronicle.

The Lyon forward came close to signing for the Magpies last summer, but the financial demands made by his representatives brought the deal to a halt.

And it appears history is set to repeat itself, despite the French international’s apparent interest in a move to St. James’ Park.

Costs of £1 million are being requested by Mondial Promotion—the same firm that acts on behalf of ex-Chelsea star Didier Drogba.

Luuk De Jong

Something close to a Twitter frenzy erupted on Sunday evening as Sky Sports announced they were privy to some major transfer news coming out of Newcastle United.

But when the name of Luuk De Jong was dropped a little after 7:30pm on their 24-hour sports news channel, there was a palpable air of anti-climax among the Magpies’ online following.

Not for the first time, the Dutch striker is being linked with a switch to St. James’ Park after a difficult spell in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Having failed to get his man two years ago while De Jong was an FC Twente player, Toon boss Alan Pardew is said to be interested in the 23-year-old once more with a loan deal being mooted this time around.

The story took a fresh turn on Wednesday when Lee Ryder in the Evening Chronicle revealed that the Premier League is De Jong's preferred option this January—as is a move to Newcastle.

Demba Ba

As well as following up on the Luuk De Jong story, James Dickinson in the Daily Express also names Chelsea forward Demba Ba as a potential January target for Newcastle United.

The Senegalese striker knows all about life at St. James’ Park, having spent over a year and a half with the Magpies before a £7.5 million move to the Blues 12 months ago.

But his chances have been restricted under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, and the report suggests another of Ba’s former clubs, West Ham United, are also monitoring the situation.

The 28-year-old has made just two Premier League starts this term, and his time in the capital could be coming to an end according to Simon Johnson in the London Evening Standard.

Nathan Dekoke

One player already said to have been offered a deal by Newcastle United this month is French teenager Nathan Dekoke.

The 17-year-old, who can play in the centre of defence or at left-back, is currently with Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne but looks set to depart during the current transfer window.

The Daily Star’s Paul Hetherington suggests the Magpies have offered Dekoke a four-year deal as they attempt to secure the Under-18 international’s signature.

Jonas Gutierrez

After being linked with a move away from Newcastle United in recent weeks, Norwich City have emerged as potential suitors for Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez.

According to the Sunday People, via David Freezer from the Norwich Evening News, former Magpies boss Chris Hughton could be ready to reacquaint himself with the winger at Carrow Road.

The left-sided 30-year-old has made just two appearances for the Toon this term, but is keen to reignite his career ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
