Welcome to your weekly spoiler-free preview of WWE Main Event. Here, you will get a rundown of all of the matches set to take place and the possible repercussions.
It's officially 2014, and WWE chose not to start the year with an episode of Main Event on ION. The show will still be watchable online and in international markets, though.
For those of you who will make the effort to go online and watch the matches, this preview is for you. WWE opted to go with only two matches and a segment of MizTV this week, straying from their typical three-match system.
It will be very interesting to see how WWE addresses the two big events from Monday featuring the return of Brock Lesnar and Daniel Bryan joining The Wyatt Family.
Let's take a look at the matches scheduled for the show.
Damien Sandow vs. Kofi Kingston
This will probably be a fun match to watch, but we have seen these two face off randomly so many times that there is nothing more this pairing can offer that we haven't seen.
They have traded wins many times, but there has never been much of a feud behind them. This is just a babyface who is feuding with a heel to fill time.
But these two will be able to pull off a few nice spots, and if WWE gives them sufficient time they will probably end up as one of the top matches of the week.
Neither man is in a major feud right now, so a win or loss doesn't really help or hurt either one of them. All we can hope for is that the entertainment factor is high.
The Funkadactyls vs. Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes
Let's just be thankful that this is not another eight-, 10- or 12-Diva tag match, but there still is not much chance of this match stealing the show.
Rosa hasn't had much ring time in recent months, but the other three women have been featured more prominently, and they have all shown improvements in the ring.
Cameron has added some nice moves to her offense, Alicia Fox has made good improvements all around and Naomi is one of the strongest wrestlers in the division.
This match might be quick, which could mean the first match between Kofi and Sandow lasts a lot longer than expected.
Miz will bring his talk show to Main Event to talk to Brodus Clay about the recent breakup of Tons of Funk and what will come next for the big man.
Reports indicate that Clay has adopted a new look and music, so it will be interesting to see what direction WWE takes him.
When he was first on WWE TV he was Alberto Del Rio's bodyguard. Then he went away and videos aired of a monster heel who dominated everyone in his path. Then we got the Funkasaurus.
Brodus Clay has the potential to be a very good heel if he focuses more on the impressive power moves he can pull off an less on playing to the crowd.
This episode of Main Event seems like a throwaway, and it's probably a good thing that WWE and ION decided not to start the year off with their weakest program.
That's it for this week. Are you looking forward to seeing anything on this show? And Happy New Year!
