John Cena seems to be the man the WWE want to build around. I have no problem with that. I am not a Cena hater nor am I Cena's No. 1 fan. I am fairly impartial.
But there is someone who sadly left the WWE who it was being built round who I preferred. Its a shame how he left as well. In a cloud after probably the worst match of his career albeit not all his fault
Think "The next big thing."
I hope you have worked it out his name Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar was up there with my favourite wrestlers of all time. His power was huge. Cena is strong but Lesnar is a different league. He could F5 the Big Show when show was at his biggest with relative ease.
Lesnar was not in the WWE for a long time debuting in June 2002 and his WWE career ended in March 2004. In that time his character went through a few stages.
First he arrived as a heel under Paul Heyman.

Whoever came up with that idea is a genius. Lesnar looked the part but was not up to much in promos. They give him the best promo guy to go with the brilliant look. It was great till he got better on the stick and could branch out on his own. He feuded to start with the Hardys.
A good way to start against one of the great tag teams. He was then thrust into the spotlight with matches against The Rock and Hogan as well as winning KOTR. He then feuded with The Undertaker. This was after being beaten by a chair with Taker I think its a nice way of removing your anger.

Next he was a face after Heymans betrayal at Survivour Series which led to his first pinfall loss. He wasn't the most natural face in the world and this was probably his worst gimmick of the lot but still very passable. He had a feud with Show and then a great feud with Kurt Angle.
His match at wrestlemania 19 with Kurt Angle was a good one except for the well known shooting star press effort. Lesnar then went on to have a feud with John Cena and then The Big Show once more. This backed up with a brilliant out of ring with Kurt Angle made the face act better as it went along.
But there was one role Lesnar was born to play. He returned as monster heel. Not the rather tame monster heels they have now. How hit the finisher pin and move on. The debuts of Mike Knox and Vladimir Kozlov spring to mind. He actually lost two matches. To Zach Gowen and to Brian "Spanky" Kendrick. But umm well take a look.

Neither opponent are great or huge but wow! That's a beating
He then had his greatest match in my view and possibly the best match I have seen. No question the best non-PPV match I have seen. A 60 minute Ironman Match with Angle. I watched that and I was on the edge of my seat all the way. A classic.
He was beaten by Eddie Guerreo at No way out. I think it was a good move left him open for a match against a legend at wrestlemania. Sadly it didn't happen.
I would like to end it there but I feel obliged to comment bout on his WWE career ending. A match with Goldberg at Wrestlemania XX. It was going to be bad before it started. Never liked Goldberg.
Lesnar didn't have the biggest moveset but Goldberg had less again. Then once the news both were leaving after the match ruined what was left of it.
Lesnar was only in the WWE for just under two years. Yet he beat some greats and looked in his place doing so. The Rock,Hogan,Angle and The undertaker to name some.
I am pleased with Lesnars MMA career but wish he would return to the WWE. It wont happen due to his less than diplomatic leaving.
Lesnar was the original man the WWE was going to be built around Cena will always no matter what happens seem like a second choice.
Lesnar had more moves than Cena does and played the monster heel better than Cena will ever play the fan favourite.
Hope you enjoyed reading
