Well it has been a two years since the Indian team accomplished the triumph of winning the T20 World Cup in South Africa. But will they be able to win it this time? Let us see what their lineup consists of and how can it help India.
Let us take the example of yesterday's warm up game that India played against New Zealand.
The Kiwis posted a hige total of 170/7 in 20 overs and India were set a target of 171.
The Indian batting lineup didn't have Virender Sehewag but had other key players like Rohit Sharma, M.S. Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina etc.
The Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is still not in good form. After a poor performance in the IPL he continued to struggle against the Kiwis. When will he come back in form. His performance in yestrerday's match was not a good one and he has to improve if he wants to help his team defend the title.
The under 23 man off the series award was a huge honour for this young gun and he continued to do well. The Indian batsman Rohit Sharma replaced Virender Sehwag as the opener in yesterday's game and played an important and good innings of 36 made of just 20 balls. If he continues to perform like this India will be in a good position in the tournament.
The Indian skipper M.S Dhoni, played just a few important innings in the IPL but overall his performance was poor. Even now he is just not concentrating on his game and losing his wicket as usual.
He has to take responsibility for his team by playing well and holding the innings together. If he can't do that he doesn't deserve to play in the tournament.
The Indian youngster Suresh Raina played an exellent innings in yesteday's match. After a good IPL season he is on a roll. He can really help the team a lot by his smashes and special tactics.
The Indian middle order batsman Ravidra Jadeja is a key player. He has the potential to hit out when it is the right time. He can manage his responsibilities even at difficult times but he needs to improve. He has to learn to play faster and better. But he is someone who can help the team very much. So the team needs him.
The Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan pulled off a great win for India in the T20 international against the Lankans. He is also a good pacer and shows no mercy to the pacers as well as the smashers. But unfortunately he did not performed too well yesterday.
He lost his wicket and failed to smash when it was needed. He did quite well in the IPL and has to perform well even in this tournament otherwise India's fate is in danger.
The smasher Yusuf Pathan helped his team Rajasthan Royals a lot in the IPL. He has the ability to smash all around the ground. He also has the ability to take quick wickets when needed. But unfortunately he failed to perform well yesterday. He has to get back in form and then he will be able to help the team a lot.
The turbanator Harbhajan Singh is a key player. As we all know that spin is the key play of the T20 game, and the spinners can turn the match around if the perform well. Harbhajan Singh is the Indian Team's key spinner and can pierce through the opposite teams batting order like a spear. So if he continues to perform like yesterday he will be very useful.
The Orange Cap was a great honour for this Indian pacer. He has the potential to bowl in the right areas and take wickets back to back. So watch out for him. Yes I am talking about R.P Singh and if he gets going like he did in the IPL India will be on a roll.
Even though this young pacer was in the weakest team of the IPL 2 he performed really well in yesterday's match. He bowled tight overs and took crucial wickets. He has to work on his line and length a bit but otherwise he is a good player and can prove to be really useful. You guessed it right again, it is Ishant Sharma.
Even though India lost yesterday's match, it can improve and win the tournament this time also.
I have talked about the main players who played yesterday but my take on other players is yet to come after tomorrows match. So please keep waiting for my next article.
